2.4.1. Nasdaq Participants

A person or corporation that trades on Nasdaq is called a Market Center participant. Market Center participants come in the following three types:

Market Makers. These participants stand ready to buy or sell shares of a company’s inventory and thereby provide the essential service of creating a continuous trading environment. Market makers are required to display continuous two-sided quotations in all stocks in which they choose to make a market.

Order Entry Firms. Order entry firms are agency traders that route orders to the Market Center for execution against displayed orders and quotations.
