Margin accounts also have minimum maintenance requirements. Under these requirements, the customer must keep a certain amount of equity in the account at all times. According to FINRA rules, customers with a long position must maintain at least 25% of the market value of any stock in equity. Short positions require customers to maintain at least 30% of the market value.
