Blanket Recommendations

A blanket recommendation is when a firm or financial professional makes a recommendation to all their customers or clients to buy or sell a particular security. Since a blanket recommendation does not consider whether the action is suitable for each individual customer, making such a recommendation is generally a bad idea, and therefore prohibited.
