Mutual funds are designed for many different purposes to meet the needs of different types of investors. They may be categorized as equity (stock) funds, fixed-income (bond) funds, and money market funds. Since each type of mutual fund is different, the ultimate source of information for an investor is the prospectus for the particular offering.
