Definition of the term Private Equity (PE) Fund...

an investment fund that pools the capital of wealthy investors to purchase either private companies, or public companies that go private as a result of being acquired by the fund. It is typically a financial buyer rather than a strategic one. It may conduct LBOs or act as a venture capitalist.
